Hello, I'm new here on the board but from what I have read so far I can see bramburn is developing quite a powerful tool. I also like the ideology behind this being a free tool. Respect!
Perhaps I missed something while reading through the information, if so then please correct me. I noticed this poll about new upcoming features but what I missed in the answer list is the URL fixing mechanism. I will be trying out the beta on a test board soon but eventually I would like to switch to my live board if I like what I see. Then the question pops up if I should enable the FURL system. Since my board has been running for about 4 years it has been indexed already and turning on the FURL system will cause the existing links to my board to be broken. For this reason I have always decided not to use any FURL modifications. I read however in a developer guide that the 'URL fixing mechanism' is not in place yet. But if this does what I think it does it would be a really great feauture. Therefor I would like to know if I have understand correct and that this redirect users/bots to the new links when they visit the board from an old link. If this is correct then this should definitely be one of the features that should be included in v1.0. -------------------- |

well the fixing mechanism idea was for FURL to FURL but for standard url to FURL it is working for all links that have been FURLed.
for example if you had a link to this thread it would have been this: CODE http://icelabz.net/forum/?showtopic=224 which then permanently redirects to the new content using proper redirect notices such as error 301 via http headers to get this: SEO/224/Furl-On-Existing-Boards/" target="_blank">http://icelabz.net/forum/content/Minerva-S...xisting-Boards/ we also make that FURL unique by having 'checks' that redirect to the correct url if the title of a thread have been changed. for example: SEO/224/furl-old-thread/" target="_blank">http://icelabz.net/forum/content/Minerva-S...url-old-thread/ SEO/224/Furl/" target="_blank">http://icelabz.net/forum/content/Minerva-SEO/224/Furl/ http://icelabz.net/forum/content/Minerasdu...dk9wkawdBoards/ all goes to : SEO/224/Furl-On-Existing-Boards/" target="_blank">http://icelabz.net/forum/content/Minerva-S...xisting-Boards/ the Pagerank from the old to new URLs gets transfered around 2-3 weeks depending on the crawls. on this board you can see from google searches that it has not yet indexed everything to the new FURL as it just opened a few weeks ago. but if you look at my other old site most links has been changed: GB%3Aofficial&hs=3OZ&q=site%3Aforum.icefuzion.net&btnG=Search&meta=" target="_blank">http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en&c...earch&meta= but that site is not using the latest IPBSEO as it is running a different FURL system. But as soon as I get the FURL to FURL fix mechanism i will upgrade that site. but for now it is as is. (BTW forum.icefuzion.net raised its pagerank by 2 points in the space of 2 months and it is now holding a pagerank of 3 after SEO">MSEO have been installed [and that is the old version, just imagine what the new one could do]) -------------------- Remember to please use the bug tracker for all bugs and errors, it is more organised that way.
